I may be in my 50s, but let’s be honest—I’m just hitting my stride. The Gritty Grit Grit journey isn’t about chasing perfection or waiting for “someday.” It’s about finding purpose in the process and strength in the struggle. I’m not extraordinary—just a regular guy who’s learned that real grit means showing up, staying grounded, and moving forward even when the road turns rough.
My roots run deep in discipline and service. As an Army chaplain, I discovered that grit isn’t just stubbornness—it’s faith in motion. My time at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, one of the world’s top level-one trauma centers, taught me the reality of courage, compassion, and perseverance in crisis. That experience sparked a deeper passion for helping others build resilience, develop emotional strength, and live with authentic purpose.
After leaving active duty in 2025, I combined military lessons with a lifelong love for teaching, writing, and spiritual growth. My Ph.D. studies in theology, motivation, and grit theory became the foundation of The Gritty Grit Grit Model—a Christian life coaching framework rooted in faith-based motivation, personal growth, and resilience training. It’s a practical, approachable path to developing true grit—the kind that fuels leadership, hope, and steady confidence through every challenge.

2019-2024
Liberty University
I pursued my Ph.D. in Education at Liberty University with a very specific goal: to elevate my ability to research and evaluate information on a whole new level. Beyond organizational leadership, the real value of the degree was learning how to dig deep into online libraries, navigate Google Scholar with precision, critically vet peer-reviewed studies, and synthesize complex textbook material. It transformed how I analyze, question, and apply research to real-world challenges.
2015-2018
Southern New Hamshire University
I earned my M.A. in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University with a very specific goal in mind. During my theological studies, I discovered a deep gift and drive for writing—but I wanted to truly master the craft. By pairing an academic theological foundation with advanced literary analysis and creative writing mechanics, I learned how to translate dense, meaningful truths into compelling storytelling and strategic content.
2010-2015
Western Seminary
My time at Western Seminary in Portland was a crucial pivot point. I initially set out to earn a credential in life coaching, but when Army Reserve requirements conflicted with live classes, I adapted and pursued an online Master’s in Ministry instead. That shift was a blessing in disguise. It deepened my ability to connect with people, read cultural contexts, and lead with empathy—providing a strong foundation in servant leadership, organizational ethics, and practical care that I rely on every day.
2006-2010
Multnomah University
When I started my Master of Divinity at Multnomah University, I felt completely out of my depth and started to fall behind. A blunt phone call from my dad woke me up, turned on a light switch, and completely changed my trajectory. While I wrestled with ancient Greek along the way, the hard-fought lessons and challenging academic atmosphere became my proving ground—instilling the grit, interpersonal care, and practical leadership required to communicate vision, mentor others, and navigate tough organizational dynamics.
2004-2005
Faith Evangelical Seminary
I completed my Bachelor's B.A. degree in Religion from Faith Evangelical Seminary in Tacoma, Washington. That program laid the groundwork for my academic journey, giving me a strong foundation in critical analysis, cross-cultural understanding, and ethical frameworks that continue to inform my perspective.
2003-2005
Calvary Chapel Bible College
I began my higher education journey at Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, California, earning an Associates degree in Biblical Theology. That program was my prized foundation; not only did the faculty and students become like family—it instilled in me a deep commitment to rigorous Bible study, formed a model for servant leadership, and generated a sense of high personal integrity that underpins every degree and milestone I've achieved since.
Driven by Experience
Walking with others through the darkest times of their lives, in both service member uncertainty and hospital rooms facing death, I realized that perseverance is not just a topic I study but a path I have lived. My faith, military service, and academic background merge into a commitment to help others develop the same resilience and practical problem-solving I relied on in my own toughest seasons.
